Fat Crush: M of Ink Knife Press on Sacred Printmaking and Creativity

Meet M, the goddess behind our new magical merch, and our latest Fat Crush.⁣

“I am a queer trans woman (she/her/they/them). I’m endlessly fascinated with learning and creating, and I’m perpetually in pursuit of expanding my knowledge and skills. I believe in “no secret knowledge” and I love sharing, teaching, and elevating other creative people whenever possible. ⁣

Ink Knife Press is a 100% water-based custom work screen printing business in Seattle, WA, which is the traditional land of the Duwamish people, past and present. ⁣

My greatest passion has always been bringing something new into the world - and I’m particularly fond of making something that wouldn’t have existed otherwise. I’m an extrovert, and I’m addicted to collaboration.⁣

Ink Knife is also home to a surreal little lounge space that I built. It feels like a speakeasy even though it isn’t really one (although I’m always happy to mix a drink or pop open a Topo Chico for a visitor). Tucked away in an industrial warehouse between a motorcycle shop and our production space, it's kind of an exciting surprise to walk in to, and makes you feel like you’re in on a secret (which I suppose you are in a way, when you visit). ⁣

This part of the shop is sometimes home to small events, friends' musical performances, little pop up markets, art openings, fundraisers and other special private get togethers. It also functions as our meeting and consultation space, garment showroom, and break room. It’s part of how we like to connect with our community, and a big component of what keeps spending lots of time at the shop feeling good.”⁣

A cornerstone of intentional gifting is the handmade. In its creation, a handmade gift also gives; it connects us to our creativity and helps us build our skill toolkit. To support that spirit, Rachel recorded a free class on making a Holiday Cordial and Herbal Vinegar. These simple, beautiful preparations turn plants into something you can bottle, share, sip, or gift.
