Fat and the Moon, at its core, is about healing. Self-care is fundamental to showing up fully to care for others, and our world.
Healing is reflected in the way we choose to do business, in intentional relationship with people and plants. We work with plants that are abundant, ethically harvested and organically cultivated and combine them in formulations that are non-toxic. Our commitment is to use reusable, recyclable containers, whenever possible and to minimize superfluous packaging.
Healing is reflected in our wholehearted support of Self Care and Self Love which stands in opposition to the pervasive message that something is inherently wrong with us, and that we need a product to fix it. We see the beauty in all bodies, all backgrounds, all ethnicities, all races and all genders. Our potions are mediums of empowerment through self care.

FOUNDING STORY
Continuing a legacy of herbalism, Fat and the Moon founder Rachel Budde has built her company around providing handcrafted, herbal body care products to those seeking natural, effective, and non toxic alternatives. Budde creates potions that reflect earthcentric values.
As an herbalist, Budde has a passion for plant bodies and human bodies. She sees the skin as the organ of our edge- the place where we meet the world. Our edges are the places we grow and change. Her purpose in birthing Fat and the Moon, is to provide intentionally made potions to support that fertile edge.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?
When our founder Rachel Budde considered her influences at the beginning stages of concocting body care potions, fat was an obvious muse.
Fat is the medium for external herbal medicine. Fat (as in the myriad plant oils) absorbs the medicinal constituents of plants so we can apply them to our skin. When we use herb infused fats on our skin, we feed ourselves a nutrient-dense meal.
Our name also is an ode to the Moon, as it has a profound effect on life on this planet; especially as all life is animated by water. Water makes up most of our bodies and the bodies of plants. The health and vitality of each cell of our being is completely dependent on water. No water, no life.
The movement of water, as we see in the tides, is in a perpetual dance with the Moon. Fat and water need a spiral movement to mix; in the movement, there is creamy cohesion, interplay, and the joining of forces. That, dear friends, is why Fat and the Moon.

All of Fat and the Moon operations happen under one roof, at the ‘Cov’.
We hand make our products in small batches and with the seasons to ensure their high quality. We provide nourishing products because we are nourished by making them.
Aside from marketing, shipping, making, accounting, emailing and providing customer service, the FM team of 25 are dynamic, talented, creative, kind and curious human beings.
The eating, sleeping, vacationing, resting and enjoying of FM employees are additional ingredients which make your potions actually magical. This is why we offer flexible work schedules, paid vacation, 401k matching, and lots and lots of snacks.
