Fat Crush: Autumn Brown on Resilience, Healing, and Social Justice
We are smitten with Autumn Brown— mother, organizer, theologian, artist, facilitator and undeniably, our latest Fat Crush. The youngest child of an interracial marriage, rooted in the complex lineages of counter-culturalism and the military industrial complex, Autumn is a queer, mixed-race Black woman who identifies closely with her African and European lineages, and a gifted facilitator who grounds her work in healing from the trauma of oppression.
We became familiar with Autumn through her podcast, co-hosted with her sister, adrienne maree brown, "How to Survive the End of the World.” The weekly show delves into the practices we need as a community, to move through endings and come out whole on the other side, whatever that might be.

Autumn deeply supports movements for social justice and healing as a co-owner of AORTA, a worker-owned cooperative of facilitators and movement strategists. Autumn is a singer/songwriter and an author of speculative fiction. Her writing has been featured in Lightspeed Magazine, the Procyon Science Fiction Anthology, Octavia’s Brood, and Revolutionary Mothering.

She has a local-to her event in Minneapolis coming up on Sept 26 called Revealing & Healing Histories: Racial Covenants Then and Now where she will be performing original music. Here’s info about that event: https://longfellow.org/event/revealing-healing-histories-racial-covenants-then-and-now/

Autumn is working on an album with her long time collaborator, Nehemiah Luckett, which is planned to release in 2023.

Learn more about Autumn and her work at her recently relaunched website, www.iambrown.org, and follow her journey on instagram @autumnmeghanbrown.
