Fat Crush: Sadie of Bread SRSLY on Gluten-Free Healing and Herbal Nourishment
There is nothing better than loving the food made by people you love. This week’s Fat Crush is on our dear bud, Sadie, founder of Bread SRSLY Gluten-Free Sourdough. Have you all tried her bread? GOOOOOD-NESS, it’s heart swelling amazing. Actually, love (and crushing) is at the heart of her business!

Sadie’s Story
"Hello! I'm Sadie (she/her), founder of Bread SRSLY Gluten-Free Sourdough. I’m an artist, an MIT dropout, and an accidental baker who learned the art of gluten-free baking to impress my college crush, Jesse. I knew Jesse was gluten-intolerant, so I got to work baking with new ingredients - sorghum flour, sweet rice, buckwheat. Many of my attempts ended up in the compost, but when one came out well, I would ask Jesse to come try it. Luckily for me, I developed a good understanding of gluten-free ingredients, because a few months later I learned that I was pretty seriously gluten-intolerant myself!

I redoubled my efforts in the kitchen, focusing on making the perfect loaf of gluten-free bread to share. After dozens of attempts, Bread SRSLY was born in 2011. Word spread. Friends told friends, who told colleagues, who told reporters, and in March 2012, Bread SRSLY became a full-time business. Now, a whole team of amazing people work to get our bread out into the world!

2022 saw Bread SRSLY’s 11th birthday, a huge milestone and one I never dreamed we’d reach when I started experimenting so long ago. Today I get to spend my time solving problems, writing strategies, and building relationships with team members and fellow small business owners like Rachel at Fat and the Moon! Outside of Bread SRSLY, you’ll find me playing in my veggie garden or my pottery studio, hopefully with my cat Dewey on my shoulder.

And Jesse? He couldn’t resist the charms of my gluten-free sourdough, and we've been together ever since."

About Bread SRSLY
At Bread SRSLY, we’re serious about reuniting people with sourdough when they thought good bread was off the table. We use organic gluten-free grains and the magic of wild fermentation to bake traditional sourdough bread that is not only delicious, nourishing, and comforting, but also safe and inclusive. A cornerstone of intentional gifting is the handmade. In its creation, a handmade gift also gives; it connects us to our creativity and helps us build our skill toolkit. To support that spirit, Rachel recorded a free class on making a Holiday Cordial and Herbal Vinegar. These simple, beautiful preparations turn plants into something you can bottle, share, sip, or gift.
